Before you start we have a couple of top tips!
Measure for your curtains using a metal/wood ruler instead of a cloth one as cloth tapes can stretch over time. If possible, fit your curtain track or pole before taking measurements, as you will need to measure the width of this rather than your window.
Consider extending the pole/track on either side of your window. This will allow room for the curtains to pull back neatly and will prevent loss of light to the room. Measuring for curtains is easy! All you need is your width and finished length.
Measure the length required from the point indicated below (at the base of the ring) to where you want your curtains to finish.
If you are having eyelet or tab top curtains, measure from the top of the pole (as shown below) to the required finished length.
The finished length of your curtains is a personal style choice. However, here are some guidelines to help you decide.
Sill length
Measure to 1cm above the windowsill
Below sill
Measure to approximately 15cm below the windowsill. If you have a radiator, consider allowing a few cementers for clearance.
Floor length
Measure to the floor. If your floor is uneven, consider taking an average length or contact us to discuss in person.
Slight kick
Measure to floor length and add 2-3cm.
Pooled curtains
Measure to floor length and add 15-20cm if you like a pooled effect.
